Myanmar teas are planted organically all over the country. It is also said that these teas can cure and prevent health problems. There are a few Myanmar tea favourites that you can choose from. All these are produced and handpicked by Myanmar tea harvesters.

What are the varieties of tea in Myanmar?

· Laphet - This is a popular Burmese tea. Laphet is another name for fermented or pickled. This type of tea can either be drunk or eaten. It is a unique type of tea that is regarded as a Myanmar delicacy. The leaves of this tea are dried and pickled, and then steamed. Some of the leaves are dried, but they are steamed before serving them as drinking tea. A special occasion in Myanmar will never be complete without serving laphet. It is a national tradition of the Burmese people even today.

You can get the Oolong tea in two different types: one is rolled in long and curly leaves, while the other one is wrap-curled into a small bead with a tail. It is served in most local Burmese restaurants in the country.

· Green Tea - This is a tea that is known to give health benefits to drinkers. Myanmar green tea is a unique type of tea that can either be drunk or eaten. Myanmar green tea leaves are taken from the plant through plucking. After that, the leaves are briefly heated and dried. That is how the rich flavour and aroma comes from the tea. It is also believed to help prevent cancer and heart problems, making it a must-try drink in Myanmar.

Scented Tea - This type of Burmese or Myanmar tea is made with a light infusion of flavours. The leaves are picked and dried and then filled with different flavourings to make them scented. It gives out a fresh and sweet aroma with each sip. Most of the restaurants, inns and homes in Myanmar serve different varieties of tea for their guests.
